- INTRODUCTION
-
- KURV is a curve fitting program which operates under Windows 3.x. It
- uses X,Y data points supplied by the user to determine the coefficients
- for 27 mathematical equations (including third and fourth order
- polynomials). A built-in data editor allows the user to create, edit,
- or import files for curve fitting. Changes to files, and the resulting
- curve fit changes, can be rapidly made from KURV's master control
- panel. Comparisons of calculated points with actual data points are
- instantly available. The user can also forecast results for points
- beyond the range of the input data. The comparisons and forecasts can
- be displayed as graphs or as tables. All graphs and tables can be
- printed via the Windows printer interface; they can also be copied to
- the Windows clipboard for insertion into other Windows programs.
- Engineers, scientists, statisticians, mathematicians and investment
- analysts will appreciate the ease of use and the mathematical powers of
- KURV.

- INSTALLATION
-
- There should be three files on the KURV diskette:
-
- README.COM This file.
- KURVARC.EXE Self-Extracting archive file containing
- KURV.EXE (the main program).
- KURVLIB.EXE Self-Extracting archive file containing
- four KURV libraries.
-
- To install KURV on your hard drive:
- 1. Change directory to WINDOWS.
- 2. Make a directory for KURV (i.e., MD KURV).
- 3. Change directory to the KURV directory (i.e., CD KURV).
- 4. Type and Enter A:\KURVARC (or B:\KURVARC). The following files will
- then be automatically extracted from KURVARC and copied into your
- KURV directory: KURV.EXE; REGISTER.ME.
- 5. Now change directory to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
- 6. Type and Enter A:\KURVLIB (or B:\KURVLIB). The following files will
- then be automatically extracted from KURVLIB and copied into your
- WINDOWS\SYSTEMS directory: THREED.VBX; GRAPH.VBX; GSW.EXE; GSWDLL.DLL.
-
- [Press PgDn]

- To add KURV to your Windows Desk Top:
- 1. Open the Windows Program Manager.
- 2. Click on the program group that is to contain the KURV Icon.
- 3. Click on the FILE menu.
- 4. Click on NEW.
- 5. Click on PROJECT ITEM.
- 6. For DESCRIPTION, type KURV Fit
- 6. For COMMAND LINE, type drive:\path\KURV.EXE
- (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\KURV\KURV.EXE).
- 7. Click OK
- The KURV Icon will then appear on your Windows Desk Top.
-
- ***** PLEASE NOTE *****
- KURV requires that the library VBRUN100.DLL is resident in your
- Windows directory. If you do not have a copy of this library, contact
- the Shareware distributor from which you obtained KURV for a copy
- of VBRUN100.DLL. Most distributors will provide you with a copy for a
- small fee. Alternatively, send $9.00 (to cover our handling and
- shipping costs) to Conrad Button's Software. KURV (and all other
- programs written with Visual Basic) WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT VBRUN100.DLL!

- GETTING STARTED
-
- 1. Start the Windows Program Manager.
- 2. Double click on the KURV Icon.
- 3. The opening window in KURV will display the Main Control Panel;
- from here you can enter or import the numerical data to be curve
- fitted, determine the coefficients, and compare or forecast
- calculated values.
- 4. Your first step in using KURV is to enter or import the X,Y points
- to be curve fitted. This is done via the data display/editor on the
- left side of the Master Control Panel. The HELP menu should be read
- before you attempt to use this editor.
- 5. Your second step is to curve fit the displayed data. Select either
- the button labeled FIT TO 25 CURVES or the button labeled FIT TO 2
- POLYNOMIALS. The HELP menu will provide additional details.
- 6. Once the calculations have been performed, you can print the
- coefficients. You can also COMPARE the calculated results with your
- inputs. You can FORECAST Y values for X values between your data
- input points (interpolate) or beyond your last data point
- (extrapolate). Refer to the HELP menu for more information.
